This review is for the Dutch (?) Import with "6" bottom left corner. 4.3 ratio seems too small for an epic like this even if De Mille shoots on studio sets, but the colour is wonderful (particularly complimentary to Hedy, seldom looking more beautiful), good sound, clear picture, and SUBTITLES (in English). So far so good, but at well over 2 hours and viewed some 66 years later it does seem 20 mins too long and a bit dialogue heavy. However the stars and battle/fight scenes and the SFX at the end definitely make up for any longeurs. The support cast of George Sanders (who plays George Sanders), Henry Wilcoxon and a sadly miscast Angela Lansbury all do there best. All in all it stands the test of time (for me anyway). Recomended, but perhaps not for the younger viewer who would expect more thud and blunder - Perhaps.

A good film that portrays the story of Samson and the shredding of his locks and loss of his strength.Victor Mature is a bit 'hammy' but achieves the desired effect.Better than some other Hollywood Biblical efforts.

This DVD is fantastic in the glorious restoration that presents all the majesty and sumptuous costumes in vivid detail .
Despite all the criticism levelled at this film as pure cheese camp and hokum I still have great fondness for this Cecil.B.DeMille masterpiece .
Victor Mature fills the screen as the archetypal Samson with braggadocio ,humour and despair but the beautiful Hedy Lamarr is the true star in the film with flashing blue green eyes that twinkle with vixenish mischief or broken hearted in tears at the self torturing guilt of her part in her beloved Samson's downfall
George Sanders is imperious and awe inspiring as the Saran of Gaza using his rich incisive voice beautifully and with menace also splendid is DeMille stalwart Henry Wilcoxon as the evil and jealous warrior Prince Ahtur .
The film is great as a study of a brilliant directors dedication in the twilight of a glorious career still pains taking and skilled at composition editing and astounding cinematic craftsmanship .
Would so have loved a commentary and a few other extra bonuses but maybe the cost of the restoration negated this option ?

This is a film epic, it's about a biblical story of a very strong christian or believer in Christ, who is beguiled and betrayed by someone he loves, who sells the knowledge of his strength to his enemies, for great wealth, only to realise that this man is a love she would never again have because he is blinded, yet because of his god given strength is able to destroy a city.
