I don't want to sound too obsessed but this is a great album, a huge, life-defining slab of noise and emotion. it kicks arse. From the stop/start blistering rock of Violet, to the anthemic riot grrl screams of Rock Star, via the divine Doll Parts, the roaring Plump, and the disturbing Jenifer's Body, and everything inbetween, I adore this album. This is what it means to be a grrl in this world, a yelling crying weird beautiful freak. I can't do it justice. BUY IT NOW. PLAY IT EVERYDAY. BUILD A SHRINE TO IT. it's pretty good.

The soundtrack to my teenage years.
Courtney love really is in her own league lyrically.
Full of feminism and teenage angst.
Would recommend this to any grunge/rock/90s fan. Best album they ever produced.

Courtney Love gets so much slagging for behaving no worse than an average male rock star. But she should be given the highest possible respect just on the strength of this incredible album. As far as I'm concerned this is the best thing Hole have done although their other albums are pretty great too. This one encapsulates so much of the vision that was riot girl and grunge. Its rough round the edges, harch, abrasive, but also vital, vibrant and hugely energetic. There's a real feel for a good tune here too. A couple of listens and I guarantee you'll be screaming along. Its angry, but in a healthy carthartic way. This album should be available on prescription for all teenage girls! Standout tracks? Violet, Miss World, Jennifer's Body, Doll Parts...actually they're all good. If you like this and have some cash to spare, get My Body the Hand Grenade to compliment it.

Live Through This is (for me) Hole's best work - it contains raw lyrics and screaming guitars, juxtaposed with poppy chords and sing along tunes. I rate it 5 stars without a doubt. Like the girl says "if you live through this for me, I swear that I will die for you". Shame he didn't. He would have been proud.

This album is brilliant. Unlike their good debut album 'Pretty On the Inside' this is focused more on the melodies and the songwriting. The chord changes are very simple, but they are very nice. This album has an often disturbing under tone, which means it provokes emotions. The songs are bare and lots of people won`t get it at first, but listen to it a few times, if you want real music instead of the manufactured garbage that is out now, this is a good addition to anyone with interest. Also don`t expect it to sound like a woman singing Nirvana songs, Hole have a unique sound that is just as good as Nirvana`s.

This is one of hole's best, its great cos its not as poppy as the third which is beautiful but not as pure as the 1st and 2nd(pretty on the inside is tough to listen to but great none the less). Its a great intro into the world of Miss love. She is one heap of rough strenght you can feel it in her voice its rough and angry but the lyrics are strong as well as beatiful. Her songs are personal and heartfelt, its a must for any cd collection its a slice of the woman her self.
