This is the full mini-opera, "the Nightingale" ("Solovey" in Russian, "Rossignol" in French), not the more famous orchestral "song of the nightingale" which was cut from the opera by Stravinsky and is now much recorded separately. In the Gramophone magazine of January 2000 Michael Oliver applauded Dessay's handling of the title roll, but incorrectly headed the review "texts and translations included".. French and English translations are there, but the Russian texts are not. Other versions: Cluytens, sung in French, mono 1955 Testament. Stravinsky, sung in Russian, 1960, Sony (with texts). Boulez, in Russian, 1990 on Erato (with no texts). Craft, language unknown, Volume 10 of Koch edition.
