There are two Sarah Vaughan's Bossa Nova albums that I like. One is called O Som Brasileiro De Sarah Vaughan and another one is Brazilian Romance.
I gave 4 stars for this because the recording is not the best quality. Sassy got a lot of criticisms for recording pop tunes (if that is the correct word) later in her life instead of her usual jazz. However, I don't see these songs as popular. The songs in the album are more in the genre of easy listening and bossa nova style. Her voice is deepened and mellow with age but when she hit her top mezzo soprano notes, she can still produce bell-like clarity in her voice.
I Live To Love You (Morrer De Amor)is such an exquisite ballad. I originally heard this ballad performed by Maysa Monjardim. It's so melancholy, romantic and wistful. Like A Lover (O Cantador) is one of my all time favourite love songs which Sarah sings a duet with Dorival Caymmi appears in this album. It shows that Sassy is her best when she sings slow ballads.
Highly recommend: "Brazilian Romance" It's Sassy's masterpiece. She loves the songs from that albums so much that when she died, she asked to be buried with the music tape and the music sheets from the songs of that album.
