Saved: Bob Dylan - Does nothing to save Dylan's reputation from the `80s
on 30 August 2012
This 1980 release, the twentieth studio album from legend Bob Dylan, is the second that explores his recently newfound faith, and part of a near 2 decade run of uninspiring albums that he would release through the eighties and nineties. Dylan's faith was by this point totally dominating them music, and while it might have been inspiring for him, it makes for a very weak album. It's pretty boring stuff, with lyrics all around a theme that I have no interest in, and a gospel sound that falls somewhat flat. Gospel when done well can be inspiring and great music, even for atheists such as myself, but here it is just a dreary rehash. Even Dylan's worst albums have at least one redeeming track on them, but this is the exception, there is nothing here that after listening two or tree times stuck in my mind or made any sort of impression. It's not that I hate the album, it's just totally unmemorable. 2 stars.
