OF ALL JOHN SURMAN's SOLO WORKS ON E C M,THIS IS POSSIBLY THE MOST CONVENTIONALLY MELODIC,WITH NUMEROUS FOLK INFLUENCES IN EVIDENCE.IF YOU ENJOY THIS ASPECT OF SURMAN'S WORK THEN THIS RECORDING IS ESSENTIAL LISTENING.

I bought this album in the early 90s and it remains a real favourite; dreamy and totally of the city as the title suggests, I used to listen to it while cloud watching from my room in a run down old house in Rugby Street near Russell Square, London. It brings back so many wonderful times and is my definitive London jazz record, suggesting the individual happily lost amid the swirling masses of people as they swarm across the metropolis.

Bought this after hearing just one track and hoped the rest of it would be as inspiring. Not sure that it was...! Still pleased with it on the whole.
