I never thought I'd buy CD's from the World Music section, but once in a while, you hear tracks that make it worth your while. About the time of the late Kirsty MacColl's tragic accident, BBC Radio 2 were broadcasting a series she'd nearly completed for the station on Cuban music, and I saw a video on "Buena Vista Social Club". Both opened me up to Cuban music, some by old performers, and groups that broke up years ago - as is the case with Los Zafiros. "Bossa Cubana" is an example of a 1960's Cuban band with a unique hybrid style - doo-wop, calypso, bossa nova, and traditional Cuban music. There are some stand out tracks on the CD, including "La Luna en tu Mirada" and "Dichoso Mar". The group, and this CD, offer something that is a little different than other groups and records - certainly a unique collection. Adding this to a CD/record collection, whether your only Cuban album, or one of several in a World Music collection, would be adding something unusual. A one off!
