Not the best but...
on 29 July 2016
A lot of Iron Maiden fans rag on about this album as being one of their worst albums. This is something that I have strongly felt was untrue for multiple reasons.
First off I have always enjoyed the more down to earth raw sound that the band have opted for. Had they stuck with the same sound they used for Seventh Son of The Seventh Son, I feel they would of came across as quite dated and ended up in a situation where people would of labelled them as "just another '80s" band.
There is also a matter of the songs presented here. Tailgunner and Holy Smoke are really good songs. They are up there with some of the band's better numbers and really are quite underappreciated. But other songs like Fates Warning, The Assassin and Hooks In You are also pretty fun songs. They are by no means ground breaking, but they are also far from bad songs. The hit single Bring Your Daughter... To The Slaughter is a fun catchy song that for some reason is now considered to be pretty poor. It is interesting to see how trends change over the years.
No Prayer For The Dying is far from a bad album and it is one I have always enjoyed. Much like Fear of the Dark and X-Factor, it has quite a bad rep for absolutely no reason. If you enjoy a good bit of hard rock and heavy metal, this is and always will be a good purchase.
