"The earth is hot like a melting pot..."
on 28 May 2010
Yes, another Dennis Brown compilation. I got this for "Lightning And Thunder (aka Hot Like A Melting Pot)" and "Some Like It Hot", two songs that had eluded me from the various Trojan compilations over the years...and all for the price of postage (as opposed to the 25-30 pounds being asked for the "Some Like It Hot" compilation album, which was my other avenue for getting the songs).
Most of the tracks are all vintage 70's tracks produced by Niney Holness; except the out-of-place "Oh Girl" from the 1983 album "Satisfaction Feeling" and "Why Do Fools" which I can't find listed anywhere.
The quality of mastering is fine, but the cheap looking cover, and the complete lack of any attempt at a booklet mean that the sources of the tracks will be a mystery unless you research them. However, unlike other dubious CDs on the Delta Music label (such as the cash-in King Tubby release "Dub Fever", which features no King Tubby mixing whatsoever), these tracks are definitely bona fide authentic Niney productions of Dennis Brown from the 70's...trust me. And they're great, of course; particularly the cultural songs "Run Too Tuff", "Hot Like A Melting Pot" etc.
It's a completely fine purchase for 1:50, which I would've ended up paying to download the two tracks I wanted from Amazon anyway, but without the risk of low-quality bitrate.
