The package splits into two sections; Archive live & studio cuts and demos going back to 1967 (discs 3 & 4) and a supposedly full concert performance from the Lamb Tour of 74/75.

Discs 3 & 4 are of passing interest; a curiousity, but not discs to occupy the CD player (or ipod) for any length of time.

The real interest is the "lamb" concert. There are a number of unofficial lamb recordings out there in various states of completeness and sound quality. No such issues here then! The sound quality is first rate and this release should have put paid to any further interest in any unofficial offerings.

However - the concert appears to be edited (certainly some of the Gabriel narative is missing); the sound levels are not consistent between some of the tracks (download version) so that the sound level jumps between pieces that should be seamless, thus ruining the effect of listening to a complete live event; the final song (It) is faded out before the end and omits any audience appreciation and there are no encore tracks. On top of that, the CD version sells at an extortionate £90. All in all, the producers have done a pretty good job of ruining what could have been a fabulous product - well done!

One other whinge. Why is there never any product literature, sleevenotes or artwork available as part of the download?

This product was bought as a birthday gift for a family member who is big on Genesis and he was over the moon with the quality of the product and stated this was just how he remembered Genesis
Thank You for making an ageing Genesis fan a happy man

Excellent anthology from one of the greatest periods, and line-ups, of this band

Great to find some long lost little treasures such as Pacidy, Sheperd and others. The booklet is phenomenal and well worth the price.

Notable due to the complete 'Lamb lies down on broadway' which the band pieced together from recordings of different shows. I can confidently say that once you've listened to the live version you will never go back to the album version. Why? The sound quality is superb and having just written the songs the band sound on fire playing them. Its truly thrilling to hear the whole thing played live. ( If you are a purist you may be annoyed that the band went back and touched up some of their playing for this Archive release. I believe Peter Gabriel may have overdubbed some vocal parts as the originals got a bit lost in the costumes. I don't mind. His voice has never sounded so good or so emotional). The other discs have some cracking live versions of other well known songs especially 'Suppers Ready' which is, again in my opinion, better than the album version. The last disc is a bit of a disappointment but I guess the band knew what they were doing when those chose to put these really early songs on. If you can't shell out £90 then the good news is that is can be streamed. Well worth a listen.

This lengthy set is not for the casual Genesis fan, as it contains a whole disc of unreleased demos from the bands amateur 'From Genesis to Revelation' days, however, as it contains a captivating and energetic live rendition of the whole of 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway' and amazing live versions of 'Dancing with the Moonlit Knight' and 'Supper's Ready', it has more than enough to attract a long time fan of band's early years.

There are obviously a number of familiar racks for anybody who has followed Genesis from the early years, with a number oif different live performances. Some of the very early records however show the breaking talent of Genesis, and the seed from which later "classics" emerge. This is therefore not a re-run of greatest hits, but a much more informative and facinating compendium.
