A friend of mind recommended BFF, so I decided to start with the original album. That was quite possibly the best music buy I've ever made. The gimmick to this album is that not one of the 12 tracks contain an electric guitar, and I can honestly say I don't miss it one bit! The music is so tight and some licks really do leave you breathless. Every song is a winner in it's own right. From the stunning Philosophy (complete with funked-up Gershwin ending) to the majestic Video, this album never fails to impress.

This cd is one of the finest in my collection, no matter how often I listen to it it still blows me away, the best place to start on Ben Folds Five.

Love this record.
Just absolutely love it.
The sheer joy and energy is enough to make me listen to it again and again.
Despite it only being a trio, the music is very inventive, so that there is a lot to listen to.
The songs first seem "pop-ey" and easy, but the more you listen the more they grow on you, and it becomes clear that these songs were created by musical genius (I agree with the blurb on this site where comparisons are made with Todd Rundgren).

Buy it - enjoy it!

Great album, ranging from love songs, some great close harmony singing and brilliant piano playing. Oh, and some real anger as well!

I loved Ben Folds Rockin' the Suburbs, so thought I'd give this a try.

Awful music. Out of tune most of the time, just makes a horrible noise with his voice.

However, as with all things music-based, give it a listen through on youtube, as everyone's taste is different.

The whole albulm is covered in glorious tracks. With the lyrics perfectly fitting into the music. None of the songs present weak links, with the best songs being Juilianne, Philsophy, Where Summer B (great chill out tune) and the masterful underground. shame the band went into a steady decline after this release
