Personally I tend to believe that the first album you hear by an artist will generally become your favourit because it represents your first introduction and the magic of introduction can never be replicated. Thus having acquired at least 10 Wobble albums I do not know whether this is the best I have heard or I am biased because this is where it all started. Either way it is favourite. Heaven And Earth is a magical slice of dreamy, dubby, jazzy, pseudo-soundtrack pop. Prefiguring his world music travels this album revels in Eastern mysticism. Japanese instruments figure heavily on the opening track then throughout. The music is jazzy but still catchy. The uplifting religious fervour of his early Invaders Of The Heart is still present too. Wobble's music is joyous and fun, whereas most "New Age" and "World Music" is pretentious and self indulgent, Wobble never gets caught up in self congratulatory exploration at the expense of his music. His musical travels further the music, he doesnt dabble merely for the sake of dabbling. I am yet to pick up a Wobble album I havent liked and am constantly astounded by his work ethic, his variation and his sheer skill and passion. Heaven And Earth is undoubtedly a highpoint in a career marked with highpoints.
