This would be the best Desert Sessions album were it not for the absolutely dreadful Letters To Mommy, I'm Dead and Teens Of Thailand. The rest of the album is superb, with several proto-QOTSA songs including the excellent Rickshaw. Don't pay over the odds for this album, only buy if you can find a cheap copy.

This is, simply awesome. Every track sounds different from the last, and almost every one covers a different genre - you've got fairly straight rock, Kyuss-style heavy grooviness, punk rock, weird mosquito crooning - you name it. The musicians are basically the usual suspects, but they're not necessarily playing their usual instruments - that's the one thing that keeps this from being a 5-star record: it all sounds a little tense and I'm-not-entirely-sure-what-I'm-doing at times. But those moments are happily rare, and the wonders of tracks like A#1 and Rickshaw make up for it. If you like Kyuss, QOTSA, Mondo Generator, or basically anything that comes with Josh Homme and Nick Oliveri attached, you'll really go for this.

Buy this album if you want to see how Josh Homme went from the beautifully sludged out Kyuss to the tight and hypnotic Queens of The Stone Age. There is a mixture of everything on this album, from the full on desert punk of 'You think I aint worth a dollar...' to the crooning 'Like a drug'.Some of it is a bit hit and miss, but I think it's basically Mr Homme bugging out and having a laugh! Some stand out tracks though, like the awesome aforementioned 'You think...' the blissed out 'A#1' and the funny 'Punk rock caveman....', there is pretty much something for everyone on here, not just desert rock fans.
