This disc grabs your attention from the opening Sonata, a delightfully perky, bouncing and joyful rhythmn, which is irresistible. This sets the tone for the whole album, with a succession of pieces whose sheer elan underlines the delight of the performers. There are quieter and more contemplative/peaceful movements, particularly in the final sonata, but the vibrant sense of life in the sprung rhythmns, and the warmth of the melodies, and the quality of musicianship, make this one to guarantee to put a smile on your face. (If you've seen the film, 'Master and Commander', and recall the scene where the Captain and Doctor enjoy a 'spontaneous' music session, you'll recognise the source once you've played this album). Strongly recommended.
