Some of the finest works in my collection are by Charles Dutoit and the Montreal, predominantly on the Decca label. So when looking to replace an old lacklustre CD of these works by relatively 'unknowns', this one caught my eye and was bought following reading the reviews here.

The interpretation by Martha Argerich is absolutely wonderful and the balance between piano and orchestra is perfect in my view. Dutoit allows the soloist to take centre stage and really shine, which she does with real panache. The two work in complete harmony and, with the great recording quality thrown into the mix, I'm delighted to have added this work in the collection.

I already had a dated and uninspired CD of these two Chopin masterpieces, but wanted to see what the pieces would sound like on a better recording with a piano genius playing. The answer is poles apart. The sound quality and phrasing here is as near prefect as you can get, and I would recommend this recording to anyone.

As an introduction to Chopin's music, I would recommend this above the more famous Nocturnes,Waltz's and Mazurka's, wonderful though they are. Whilst music critics debate the standing of Copin's piano concertoes in the 'pantheon' of this genre, my personal view is that they don't sit too far behind Beethoven, Mozart and Rachmaninov

Divine Martha, who plays like a man... Great Dutoit, wonderful director and Martha's husband: a couple to listen. A Chopin vibrant and modern, but still romantic.
