If it were possible, I'd have 0 - 5 stars flashing in sequence. There is so much I really hate about this album, in particular, his yelping over his rather good piano (why did you need to do that, Keith?), he has ruined many a good piece of music on many a good album with this dreadful vocal trademark. Then, there is the banging, the avant-garding, the Birtwhistling; it all gets on my nerves. Yet, there are plenty of moments when I end up thinking, this is pure genius - very much in part in the rather nice bass work of Charlie Haden on bass and Paul Motian on drums. Jarrett also demonstrates that he's pretty good at playing the Soprano Sax. Gosh! It is such a dreadful album, but a rather good dreadful album!
