Fish, on what turned out to be his valedictory album, puts in a superb lyrical performance; as ever the guitar work of Steve Rothery is excellent and there are a number of brilliant tracks starting with 'Hotel Hobbies/Warm Wet Circles/That Time Of The Night' and continuing with the likes of the powerful 'White Russian' and the gorgeous 'Sugar Mice'. At a lengthy 52 minutes, 'Clutching At Straws' is the longest of the 4 studio albums with Fish at the helm, but, because this is a complex and well-devised concept work, I think that with repeated plays the listener is supremely rewarded. Deservedly, this work is regarded as one of the best progressive rock albums in recent history and is definitely worth investing in.

A fine album although maybe not up to the constancy of 'Script for a...' or 'Misplaced Childhood'.

Being a Fish fan, I loved almost every single release from Marillion in his good old days; for sure it's a must for all Marillion fans.
