The Jam, were in my opinion always an 'albums' band. Some of their best tracks were tucked away between those 'A' sides on their fantastic albums. However, for the casual Jam fan obtaining these mini-masterpieces would obviously involve purchasing all of their LP records... Enter the Jam collection! This is a most useful compilation of brilliant non-single Jam classics. It includes the excellent 'The Butterfly Collector', the haunting ballad 'English Rose', and my personal favourite, the utterly weird 'Carnation'.
So go buy it!

Given the price and content, if you're after a cheap introduction to The Jam just get this and 'Compact Snap' (rather than 'Greatest Hits', as suggested above). 'Compact Snap' covers all the A sides and a few other bits and pieces while this is a generous selection of less famous material. There's no cross- over in track- listings and between them they cover the essentials, including all the great b- sides. The tracks here are very well- chosen, with the tough but melodic material given emphasis. I would have included 'Tonight at Noon' from 'This is the Modern World', but that's the only gripe.

Although I loved The Jam as a kid, I was always a singles fan rather than LPs( still remember the feeling of excitement when I heard Going Underground had gone straight in at NO1!). This compilation is near perfect in that it contains superb b sides and key LP tracks...The Butterfly Collector, Tales From The Riverbank, Man In The Cornershop, Liza Radley, Carnation, Thick As Thieves, Pretty Green, English Rose etc within its generous 25 tracks, which provide the depth beyond a the 7 inch singles.

Couldn't play a single tune without it jumping. Very disappointed and should have known better.
