This is a beautiful recording. At times minimal - voice and piano, or voice and guitar - other times more filled with an orchestra arranged & conducted by the man himself. But whatever the arrangement, the thing that breaks through & shines is the VOICE: such richness & depth & emotion! A collection of Argentinian songs, this is the album in which Cura lays bare his roots & allows us to share his beginnings, glimpse the musical arena in which he developed. If you prefer the restrictions of Italian opera, with its linguistic mannerisms & open throated technique, then look to one of the Verdi collections, but if you want to hear the Cura voice in it's most natural, honest, passionate incarnation, then this is the album to buy. I defy anyone to listen to Se equivoco la palomo & not be moved. It's the most beautiful song I've ever heard. Well recommended, particularly as a gift for a loved-one. Something to cherish. BUY!
I first heard Jose Cura when this CD was reviewed in Gramophone and the last track was included on the magazines free CD. I was entranced and bought this CD based on this one track and I was hooked! The songs are sung from the heart and there isn't one track that disappoints. Don't buy this CD if you want powerful tenor singing. Do buy it if you like music that touches your heart - you won't be disappointed
I LOVE this album. Cura's voice is by turns sweet, tender, powerful and passionate. The songs are varied, some deceptively simple, some more complex. It feels like a real labour of love from an artist at the height of his powers.
