Seems fitting that 'E' is the son of a quantum physicist- many worlds exist within and without this incredible, heartbreaking record....like being allowed to read the teenage diary of a troubled friend...it's certainly autumnal in it's tone; all faded colours and time for the jacket...."3 Speed" is a suburban American half-dream, and "PS You Rock My World" gives goosebumps...the nightmarish grey walled hospital songs are chilling, but there's hope and a warm humour behind the cold tears....absolutely essential for anyone who has experienced deep loss

Given the personal tragedies that Mark Everett was going through at the time, the fact that he was able to produce an album of beautiful (predominantly) ballads is all the more remarkable. Whilst the lyrics reflect the difficulties he was no doubt going through, the overall mood of the music does not and I actually find it very uplifting.

There are very few weak songs on the album, and highlights for me are Elizabeth on the Bathroom Floor, Cancer For The Cure, Electro-shock Blues and Last Stop This Town. The closing three songs (Dead of Winter, The Medication is Wearing Off and PS You Rock My World) also provide one of the most beautiful trios of closing songs on any album I've heard.

Essential listening.

perhaps my least favourite eels album I have brought so far. I do love this band though so although its not my favourite its still pretty great. Obviously due to the nature of the album its much more depressing and a bit more eclectic

All the songs are great as you'd expect but Last Stop This Town is in a different league.

A brilliant album, despite being around a devastating slot in Mark's life. It illuminates some of his brilliant autobiography - and vice versa - with songs that are sad, catchy, wonderful and also funny, although not exactly a comedy album! At this price, go get it, you won't be disappointed.
