Terry Dene was the first and the nearest British answer to the King of Rock 'n' Roll, Elvis Presley but, having said that, he could also rival Ricky Nelson and Roy Orbison.

I saw him in Liverpool on the Empire in 1957/58 and he was magic. I've seen him about four times since then at the Astoria and the Floral Pavilion in Liverpool in recent years and his stage act is as good as ever. I believe he didn't reach his full potential in the 50's and the 60's and doesn't get the air play he deserves either as a rock singer or ballad singer.

I have heard that there is a possibility he will release a CD in 2011. I have read 'I thought Terry Dene was dead' which came out in the 70's. Perhaps another book bringing his story up to date could be brought out.

Here's to Terry Dene

The first two tracks are the group's original demos for Decca. Many of the other tracks are from live performances, but don't let that put you off. This CD is a winner, and shows what Decca missed by restricting Terry to `teenage heartthrob' material. Compare this version of `Pretty little Pearly' to the original Decca recording and you'll see what I mean. Makes you wonder what Decca would have done to the Beatles if they HAD got them. Terry, with an excellent backing group, does total justice to the many early Elvis tracks. You won't hear better, more exciting versions anywhere. What a voice. What a neglected talent. He could have been England's No.1 rock 'n roller/pop singer with just a little luck. You might have to pay through the nose for this CD, but you won't be disappointed.

Recorded in 1970's & 80's (except first two tracks) which is not clear when you buy the CD. OK if you don't mind this.
