VINE VOICEon 9 May 2010
Carole Bayer Sager has a very unusual voice - not to mention a unique style of singing, oddly, not as noticeable on her one big hit from the summer of 1977: 'You're Moving Out Today'.

I can't think what made me buy this album - having only ever heard the one hit, and at the time, not really aware of her song-writing talents, and so perhaps it was curiosity, and the persona that came across when on 'Top Of The Pops' performing the aforementioned hit.

However; I'm glad that I did, as this is a very good album! She's written all the songs, and okay; she may not be the world's best singer, but it's a poor shot if you don't get the chance to sing some of your own material at some time in your life!

Ironically, it's the mega-hit featured on this album that sounds distinctly out of place; all the other songs are ballads, and so probably this would have been better placed as the final track for it to sound more at home here.

A very nice album that will be sure to grow on you.

What can I say.... this is the album I played till my record player packed up!

CB-S is one of the most talented (singer) song-writers ever, an inspiration (with her husband) in charitable works (Save the Children). A former Mrs Burt Bacharach, her style can be identified in many successful songs, including his. This album includes collaborations with other musicians, the most successful single from the album being "You're moving out today", co-written with the Bette Midler.

Not on this album, but of note is her song (co-written with Bacharach) "That's what friends are for", which raised millions of dollars for AIDS research.

Ah. A wonderful singer songwriter unique in her time with unusual songs quirky and touching. She was one of the best pop songwriters of her time. A brilliant first album. I adore it.
