Hadn't heard Max Webster for 20+ years on any radio station then saw this and thought why not, just to see if it was as good as I remembered. The gamble paid off in spades. This is a brilliant album full of catchy hooks and tunes. For those not in the know, they sound like Styx, keyboard driven with muscular guitar. Forget the Rush connection, they are not Rush lite.

Whilst I prefer 'Universal Juviniles', 'Million Vacations' is packed with some seriously good material - hell, a mate of mine who hated the whole 'prog scene' owned a copy of the 'Paradise Skies' single. The album finishes off with two real classic Webster tracks - 'Rascal Houdi' and 'Reasearch' (at Beach Resorts) - but also includes firm favourites such as 'Moon Voices', 'Night Flights', and jeez! it's easier to say that the only non-superb songs are 'Sun Voices' and 'Look Out' (both good) - ultimately a pretty darn good album but if they'd only put 'Party' & 'Distressed' on this album instead of those two then this would have been their equal best album.

And sorry for all the '''s

I still remember, vividly, seeing Max supporting Rush in London and being completely blown away by the vastness of their sound and the virtuoso range so remarkably demonstrated by the the band on stage. This album, better than any, demonstrates what made Max so special. Kim's guitar-work ranges from the delicate sensitivity of a neurosurgeon to the wild thrashing and manic picking of a caged beast. Tracks such as Rascal Houdi don't come along very often and it is worth getting this album for this alone.

This compilation is a showcase of the many writing and instrumental talents of Max Webster, Canada's answer to psychedelic rock. The best of their work since their debut with many notable singles an a unique style.
