This is a truly excellent album on the poppy side of disco. Besides the two massive hits, the dramatic Ma Baker and the hypnotic Belfast, it also contains other gems like the beautiful Plantation Boy with its wistful lyrics and compelling reggae beat, a good enough version of CCR's Have You Ever Seen The Rain? and the title track Love For Sale. Eurodisco was the sound ruling the airwaves and the dancefloors in 1977 and 1978.
Although it gathered a lot of flack from music critics back then, Love For Sale's not a bad album at all whether you look at it from a pop or dance perspective. Unlike today's techno music, these melodic songs provide sheer listening pleasure while at the same time being the perfect party music. What's more, it has aged surprisingly well. Anytime as good as Abba!

This is the second of Boney Ms classic three albums. Released in 1977 only months after their first album, it boasts the monster hit 'Ma Baker' kept of the top spot only by Donna Summers 'I Feel Love'. The other less well remembered hit on this album is 'Belfast' beautifully sung by Marcia Barrett. The song was actually written for Marcia in her solo days prior to the formation of Boney M.
The title track is a fun 'discofied' version of the Cole Porter song which shows off Liz Mitchells vocal abilities wonderfully.
Other stand out tracks are the cover versions of 'Have you Ever Seen The Rain (Creedence Clearwater Revival) and 'Still I'm Sad (The Yardbirds).
The album is a great mix of sounds and styles. 'Platation Boy' written in the style of 'No Woman No Cry' is a particular favourite of mine and once again shows off the beautiful voice of Liz Mitchell.
The extras on this cd issue are a little bit strange. 'Ma Baker- Somebody Scream' was a top 20 hit a few years back but does not really fit it with the sounds of 1977, and 'Stories' was a track recorded after the original line up split for good and features only Liz Mitchell from the Boney M most people will remember.Recorded in 1989 it has no connection with this album whatever.
Nevertheless an essentail purchase for Boney M fans and lovers of 70s disco.

Now enhanced by extra tracks, Love For Sale is a really excellent album of 1970s dance/pop music. Besides the two massive hits: the dramatic story song Ma Baker and the hypnotic pulsating Belfast, it also contains other gems like the evocative Plantation Boy with its wistful lyrics and compelling reggae beat, a good enough version of CCR's Have You Ever Seen The Rain? and the title track Love For Sale.

Eurodisco was the sound ruling the airwaves and the dancefloors in 1977 and 1978. Although it gathered a lot of flack from music critics back then, Love For Sale's not a bad album at all whether you look at it from a pop or dance perspective. Unlike today's techno music, these tuneful songs provide sheer listening pleasure while at the same time being the perfect party music. It has also aged surprisingly well, anytime as good as the music of Abba!

I love Boney M, so to me all of their albums are good, & this is just one of many.

At long last remastered editions of four of Boney M's fantastic albums with extra tracks.

I first got all of their eight albums from Germany when they were released in 1994.

Love For Sale was Boney M's second album. It was released in 1977 and contains the hits Ma Baker and Belfast.
