If you were around when this music was made and either could not afford to buy it or were perhaps not able to appreciate its subtlety and heritage at the time and thought The Band was just a backing band for Bob Dylan this is a great CD to buy.
It has all the old favourites and the songs reflect their fascination with the traditions and people of the American South. 'The night they drove old Dixie down', that always stirs up a curious sympathy. 'Georgia on my mind' a lovely version of a Carmichael classic and 'I shall be released'. The Band were curiously both of their time and ahead of it this album covers plenty of ground. Great music for any time.
