My friends say this is music for teenage girls, but what do they know? They have NEVER heard the album. ‘Out of the blue’ is great eighties pop; 10 tracks with a playing-time of 40 minutes, and not a duff song anywhere. Half of the titles were released as single A sides: ‘Only in my dreams’ (9/87) ‘Shake your love’ (1/88) ‘Out of the blue’ (5/88) ‘Foolish beat’ (7/88) and ‘Staying together’ (10/88).
The album was released on the Atlantic label in 1987. I bought a vinyl copy in 1988 after hearing the hit singles. Debbie is often linked with the singer Tiffany, who had hits during the same period.
‘Shake your love’ is repetitive, but fun, with irresistible girlie vocals. The upbeat ‘Red hot’ has a youthful and spirited vocal performance. My favourite title of all is the wonderful title song ‘Out of the blue’.
This second-hand US copy is a ‘keeper’, and a reminder of happier times. It replaces my vinyl copy (now sold) which I had started to miss.
