This album is classic old school metal, really good album, not as good as The Dark album, but still quality baring in mind when it came out, love the bass playing on this album, really drives the album on, first two songs are best, the rest are good-ok, but there's no bad ones. Just love the organic sounding drums, much better than some of todays over polished nonsense.
released in 1984 this is an old school metal album that doesnt have to hide in the shadows 31 years later, it hasnt aged, the best metal doesnt. A commanding performance throughout by vocalist David Wayne is certainly one of the reasons but its the quality of the songs that really help here. Great metal, thrashy and speedy at times but mainly metal with a little ballad or so thrown in and you have it all here. The instrumental is even awesome, they dare to go faster and heavier on that. The band have had a long career and fans will argue the toss which album of theirs is the best, for me its the self titled debut , a glorious 40 odd minute banger.
Buy this album for the first two tracks -- Beyond the Black and Metal Church -- which are possibly the two heaviest metal songs ever recorded. The rest of the album is good, but fails to match the incredible weight and intensity with which it starts.
