I have listened to this album repeatedly for fifteen years. Why, then, review it now? Because with every increase in the technology of my audio equipment, the amazing complexity and sheer musicality of this album has become more and more apparent. Also to say that as well as the genius of the band and their totally inspired music the engineering and production techniques of Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno, enhancing Steve Lillywhite's strong foundations, gelled together to create this work which must surely be one the best albums ever made. And that is without a remastering.
Other reviews point to the strength of individual tracks - and they are substantially different from one another, but all jaw-droppingly good - so there is no need to repeat this detail. There isn't a weak track. Some albums are particularly strong on melody, harmony, rythmn, vocals, ambience or lyrics. However, JT is remarkable for being strong on all of these, but more than that is a totally coherent work as a whole, like a book. I hope that any readers who have not really concentrated on a dedicated listen to The Joshua Tree will find time to do so, and they will soon see why all the fuss is made about this album dedicated to an unusual Yucca plant from high altitude in the Mojave desert.

To me, this is one of the greatest albums of all time, right up there with Floyd's The Wall, Oasis's Definitely Maybe, The Who's Meaty Beaty Big n Bouncy etc etc. Virtually every song is fantastic or un-fastforwardable as i like to call it. There are a couple not to my personal taste but as an album this works really well and some of the lesser known songs such as "Mothers Of The Disappeared" and "Running To Standstill" as well as "One Tree Hill" far surpass the better known tracks. It's a beautifully crafted work of art, sculpted together with expert production and the typically energetic performances of the band with the melancholic drones of Bono putting the icing on the symphonic cake. It's absolutely fantastic, even after 25 years.

Bar None! The greatest album of all time recorded by Bar None! the greatest musical artist's of all time U2. The 1987 5th studio album by the band we have all come to know as the ultimate sufferers of the 'bee gees effect' (a band which is able to write, produce, and record masterpiece after masterpiece without any full apprecation for their work) when infact they have had the most eventful and successful careers in the history of popular music and YES! that includes The Beatles. With 25 no it's 26 years now (Jesus!) uninterrupted years of being the biggest band in the world sit down, contemplate, listen and treat yourselves to the time masterpiece of The Joshua Tree and you will see exactly why.
