I grew up listening to Gary Numan and his music, but lost touch with it over the years, but this album takes me back to those years effortlessly. The songs, all delivered in Gary Numans' level tone project the isolation and alienation often felt by the youngsters of my generation. I especially rate 'Are Friends Electric?', 'We Are Glass' and, of course, 'Cars'.
The rating does not reflect the music but rather the poor vinyl release itself. Bad pressing with numerous scuffs, marks and scratches clearly produced with no care at the pressing plant (at least for this particular run). I bought a copy through Amazon and returned it and bought another copy from HMV which was as bad and returned that too. The other recent Numan vinyl reissues from Beggars are great so I am hoping this will get the care it deserves in a future run.
