I particularly wanted the Young Person's Guide and the Sea Interludes, and here they were at a great price, performed by an excellent orchestra under a very accomplished conductor: so, a no-brainer!
The recording quality is as good as anything in my collection, and the sense of presence at the performance is tangible. From the pianissimo passages to the all-out tutti crescendi, everyone involved in this production can be proud of the result.
I am on record as not being Britten's greatest fan, but here are three works which most people will enjoy. He was certainly a most inventive composer, and there is a great variety of thematic material and scoring to be enjoyed.
Recommended as a toe in the water for Britten's orchestral works, or as a Must Have for collectors.
