Some great bands start off slowly before woking themselves up to their best material, others release such inspired debuts they spend the rest of their careers trying to match them. The Ten Commandments is rightly considered to be one of the all time classics of death metal. One of the second wave of US death metal bands, Malevolent Creation instantly became one of the most brutal outfits around with this release. This album has less blast-beats than their later work, but still sounds shatteringly brutal over a decade later thanks to the brilliant production by Scott Burns, and Bret Hoffman delivers some scorching vocal lines. The band may have got more technically proficient, but they have rarely matched the quality of the song writing here. For death metal fans this is absolutely essential.
