After the incredible series of the Golden Age of American Rock & Roll, ACE went on producing top 100 hits from the American Charts now under the name of "Teenage Crush" or as the producers call it the "soundtrack to teen angst". So far ACE has produced 5 volumes and my opinion on all of these can be read extensively on my review of voilume 5. It's fantastic, magical and it really brings you back to the late 50's and early 60's, our teenager years. The Teenage Crush series has less Rock & Roll and more romantic top 100 hits but all in all it's 5 stars again. Most of the songs are well known, especially if you're a collector, but for newcomers it's a delightful entrance to the "real" music we listened to in those days. A special mentioning for the original Sweet Dreams by Don Gibson, the title song of this series by Tommy Sands who was going to be another Elvis but just had 2 more minor hits and "I understand" a fantastic 2 songs in one. Although another reviewer calls this a new series of CD's by ACE this first volume is from 1997.
When rock critics were at their height and their most vicious this is the kind of music always singled out for verbal abuse. Not nowadays though when high school pop is at its most collectable. Here in a series now up to five are the hits and the near hits some first time round on CD.
