Helpful - and almost up to date
on 23 May 2010
I took this guide with me to Dubrovnik earlier this month. It was really very useful. It tells you all you need to know for a visit to that fascinating city. The excursions suggested are helpful to know about what to do. We were on a package trip where excursions were available so it was useful to know which ones were worth doing as a group or on your own.
It's generally accurate so no real complaints there. One point of interest: there are 3 museums in Dubrovnik - the Franciscan monastery in the city, the ethnographic one in the old Granary high up near the walls and the maritime museum. If you plan to visit all 3 (they are quite interesting) then buy a ticket valid for all 3 at the first one you visit as this will save you a lot of money. Even if you only visit 2 it's worth it.
They are reconstructing the cable car which will take you to the Homeland museum which overlooks the city. No completion date set yet but when it's open it should be a real highlight of a visit to Dubrovnik. The book seems to think it's already up and running - but it isn't. Otherwise this is really quite a helpful guide book for first time visitors.
