Turn the lights down low & imagine you are in the presence of a wandering storyteller who recounts the tale to you of Sir Gawain & the Green Knight. Be transported into the world of Camelot as Gawain goes on his quest & like all myths there is a mystery riddle which may bring about a greater clarity, once one had understood a little.
The poem is spoken with a Yorkshire accent & the words flow across the room weaving magic of a mythic past when things seemed to be tested as the Roman Empire deteriorated into the dark ages, it was just another movement of the people as the Romans left but the Saxon's flowed in.
This CD was money well spent; it should be heard in all schools in the land.

I always try to read Sir Gawain before Christmas. This year I thought that I would try an audiobook version.
I don't think that the translation is as faithful as the Brian Stone version, but it is still very good.
The reading by Jasper Britton is very lively and as another review has noted he has a fine dramatic
sense. I was very pleased with the audiobook and listened all the way through on a car journey lasting several hours.
