Amazing - An insight into Islam in our age.
on 26 June 2009
I want to recommend this book to every Muslim and non-Muslim who wants to look beyond the tired stereotypes of our faith which dominate both sides of our modern culture wars.
It's not an easy read - It's one that you'll return to more than once to discover every nuance, but if you give it your patience and attention, you will find the perfect harmony between the eternal and the contemporary, the spiritual and the wordly and the legal and mystical traditions of Islam.
If Iqbal's thought had gained the currency it deserves, we would not only have found the means of overcoming the impasse which our faith has reached but would have seen the people of the West looking to it as way way out of our spiritual impasse.
He deserves to be brought into the centre of the debate about the future of Islam.
