Beautiful pictures of kimonos and the story behind each one. A section on the history of Japanese embroidery and why the author became involved in the art. A lovely book but for me I wanted more of the techniques and the history, these sections were too short. However overall beautiful and makes you want to find out more..
This book is beautiful, both in terms of its production and in terms of its contents. The design is good, the kimonos and obis are displayed well, and the colour reproduction is of high quality. I also learnt a great deal from the descriptions of the significance and/or symbolism of the embroideries on the kimono, even though the book is not text "heavy".
What I was not expecting was that this book features the kimono embroidery of only one woman, but in the end I did not mind because her work is so breathtakingly exquisite.
