TOP 1000 REVIEWERon 12 September 2010
For some reason there seems to a plethora of popular architecture books about sheds, and beach-huts, and tree-houses, as if people find real architecture a turn off, but are engaged with the informality and invention of smaller projects.

This is a hefty book of photos of small conceptual architectural projects. Ranging from a house that has collided with building, to a treehouse on top of a tree, on top of a sky scraper. At times it can seem a bit arid, and then there is an image that is simply stunning and inspiring, and beautiful.

There are no plans, and only sketchy details of the projects, but the most likely audience for this book is looking for inspiration rather than detailed plans and elevations.

If the price is off-putting then XS: Big Ideas, Small Buildings by Phyllis Richardson covers similar ground.

If you are swithering on getting it, check out the Gestalten website, they published the book, and in addition to previews of selected pages, there is also a fine video podcast about the book.
