Another Steidl book. Unfortunately not the best. If you want just one book by Bruce Davidson, choose Outside-Inside, that one is really good, good choice of pictures and very representative of Davidson's work. Here you have 5 books. Circus, already published by Steidl 5 years before with a much better printing, Brooklyn Gang, published in 98 by Twin Palms, Time of Change and East 100th Street, both published by St. Ann's Press and printed by Trifolio in Italy, by far a better printing and finally Central Park published by aperture in 1995 with also a much better printing.
A disappointing work, Mr. Steidl.

While I have come across better photographers than mr Davidson in collecting photography books, his mastery in producing entire books on a single subject is very impressive indeed. It's not the visual appeal of each single image that makes this set worth getting, but the complete story told by each of the five books. And, of course, the quality of the books is quite special. Combine it with the fact that the first book is signed, and that the set is a limited edition, and you soon realize that while it seems expensive, this set is well worth its price.
