If you love drawing you cannot help but love Durer. I know I do and have done for over thirty years since first I saw his work. Often overshadowed by Da Vinci and Rembrandt, Durer is a master at work, who should be given all the praise he deserves. Whilst Da Vinci was master of the Renaissance in Italy, Durer reigned supreme in the Renaissance of Northern Europe. The superb Albertina collection is showcased in this book. The essays in this book examine Durer's life and art. The majority of the book is taken up with a catalogue of works. These mainly full page reproductions are magnificent, some spread over two pages. They show Durer's drawings, watercolours and woodcuts in fine detail. He was master of all. His famous hands, the watercolour rabbit, self portraits and numerous woodcuts are here along with many works that form a celebration of this fine artist. Highly recommended.
