I have many books on the subject of spectroscopy and have to say this is by far the best I have read and will appeal to the beginner as well as the more experienced amateur. Quite a few concepts were new to me and I have been observing for some time using a Star Analyser grating. The chapter on the software package `Rspec` was particularly helpful as the software itself relies on online videos to help/show how it works!. The book encourages experimentaion and one chapter describes a `diy` spectrometer based on a medical spectrometer which I am about to embark on. Its fair to say that its been some time since I have read a book from cover to cover like I did with this book. A joy to read, highly recommended!
What spoils what would otherwise be a good book is the fact that it looks like the proof reading has been done by a schoolboy from Outer Mongolia with a limited grasp of the English language. Admittedly this is an american book so some spelling and wording will appear differently but there are also grammatical errors and missing words on nearly every page. There are others though where extra words have been added in! Must try harder!
