An intriguing mix of historical fact and fiction with an element of fantasy as well. A very good read though stretches the imagination a bit too much towards the conclusion. Still a bit of a page turner. I didn't know the author but bought it because of his connections with my alma mater! I will look out for anything else he writes.
I thoroughly enjoyed this historical novel. A rollicking romp carried out at breakneck speed, it kept me engaged to the end. The characters are strong and plot line never gives up. I could easily see it being made into a film. Congratulations to Mr Ranscombe on an assured debut novel. I look forward to his second.
Terrific fast paced thriller. The dark and murky past was brought so vividly to life you almost felt yourself in the Boston docks or Edinburgh old town or the Canadian frontier. Great characterisation throughout and I especially likes Burke sitting on Hares shoulder like a bad penny. Well worth a read.
