This testing book was great for preparation for the Royal Navy flying aptitude tests. The explanations were good and the 20 practice tests were great. The only issue I found was that the final mock exam had questions that were way too difficult to calculate without the use of a calculator even when rounding. Despite this, the rest of the book was perfect.

This book is rubbish, the examples it gives when explaining the methods work fine, and then it throws an insanely difficult practice question at you on the very next page in which you need a calculator. There are lots of errors in this book, one for example gives the same exact question twice in the same test. Did anyone bother to proof read this?

The explanation section at the beginning of the book does introduce the concept of SDT equations and gives some methods for solving them. Some of these are great (teaching you how many units of a given size there are in an hour, which you get to recognise really quickly and then you can rattle off answers in no time), some are totally useless without a calculator. After the explanation section you get a series of practices tests - as another reviewer said these are often way too easy (the number of times it says "at 60 mph how far do you go in an hour", or something equally easy, is ridiculous) or preposterously hard. In the latter category I struggled for ages trying to work it out in my head (which you need to be able to do for, say, military entry tests), and then attempted with a calculator - the answer you get proving that there's no way you could do this quickly in your head (ie without pen and paper and time for working). The final test, however, is infuriating - all 20 small tests are do-able save for the few examples of harder questions mentioned above, but in the final test almost all the questions require calculations you could never do in your head. There is literally no explanation for how to tackle these harder questions more quickly, it just seems to assume that you've got information from somewhere else.

Like the "Numerical Reasoning" guide from this same company, another flop - fine for getting an introduction but disastrously edited (horrible spelling mistakes and some confusingly worded questions). It just reads like the author wrote it on a train on the way to work, and doesn't seem to care at all whether you understand at all or not. Save your money and do a Google Search.

Awful, first chapter has examples of how to use the formula but does not explain the reasoning, very frustrating to use.

Questions are poorly worded, calculations are confusing and the answers are incorrect. There is no consistency on rounding up or down and utterly ridiculous that you can do these calculations in your head. This book should be recalled.

I will be seeking a refund on what I feel is a complete laughable aid to preparing someone for passing tests in as suggested the military.

I bought this book to practice speed distance time tests for RAF and Army assessment tests. I found the book greatly improved my STD ability. The book is a fantastic way to get your SDT calculations up to stretch in time for a recruitment assessment.

If you're going for the AOSB you NEED to make sure you're prepared, and this book will help you accomplish that. It will, as it says it will, make you develop your speed, competence and confidence in speed, distance and time tests. Great combined along with the rest of the series, though quite expensive.

The tests inside the book and good - Lots of them.
However I dislike the way the book tries to teach how to do the SDT questions. Much simpler ways to learn.
