Not a particularly satisfying story
on 22 March 2016
I wanted to read this before I see the Captain America Civil War movie. All I can say is that I hope the movie has a more satisfying ending than the graphic novel.
After reading this, I looked into it a bit more and it seems that this is not the complete story, and it actually spans over many different comics, making up nearly 100 issues or something. I probably wouldn't have bothered with this if I had known that.
The woman that guilt trips Stark: I figured that she was manipulating him the whole time and was possibly a villain. Maybe a shapeshifter of some kind. But no, that wasn't the case at all )as far as this novel goes anyway). I thought that would have been an interesting twist and I would have likely forgiven the other plot points that I found so dissatisfying.
It was weird that I found myself completely rooting for Captain America's side the whole time, yet in the end, he gives up and hands himself in to be arrested For defending freedom...It was a really disappointing ending.
It's kind of hard to recommend this. It IS interesting, but the ending was kind of depressing and seemed to lack any sense of justice.
I really hope that the upcoming movie learned from the mistakes of the comic and came up with a better conclusion. Fingers crossed!
