Everything you wanted to know about food in the Georgian navy.

A really detailed, interesting book. The fine detail is commendable but, in places, the book can be rather dry (like ship's biscuit?) so I have to admit that I skipped the odd paragraph. What it does give is another dimension to the supply and provisioning of Georgian navy ships - those things that we take for granted when we are thinking about battles at sea, the age of sail and images of the British sailor. Who ate what, how it was transported, how it was cooked, how food was obtained in foreign stations.....its all there. What struck me was the absolute enormity of the task of growing, processing, baking and packing all of this to last for months of sea travel.
