One doesn't buy Mr. Marland's books for their literary style; he has none, writing English as though it were a foreign language and not troubling to employ a proof reader. The multitude of statistical errors in his previous volumes are now made less obvious as they are printed in an impenetrable dark purple on lighter purple but among the obvious howlers are international appearances attributed to the wrong century (!!) and - within a year of the event - the replacement of Megson as manager by Coyle placed in the wrong season.
As in previous so-called "complete records" he has not bothered to include details of early Lancashire FA Cup & Manchester Senior Cup matches which, in their day, were taken very seriously and are readily available at Bolton Central Library.
With Marland as club secretary it is little wonder the Wanderers are having problems
