People who collect things, as I do, also usually collect a number of books on the subject they have chosen to collect and this book would be a good addition to the collector of paperweights. It is well written and well produced. The photographs are very good and there is a fair representation of paperweights from the different factories who produced these wonderful little works of art.

Personally I could have wished for a few more of the weights from the English factories, Whitefriars, Bachus and also the addition of some of the Yorkshire factories, Kilner's of Wakefield etc. that produced the Dumps. None of these factories are with us any longer, although the Whitefriars name continues under the Caithness banner. The Strathearn and Perthshire factories, sadly no longer with us and more of their weights would have been a bonus.

However that is just my personal opinion and the book does show some beautiful examples of the art of the glass maker. Covering the French factories of Clichy, St. Louis and Baccarat. Sadly many of the weights from these factories are now well beyond the price range of the average collector. All told the book gives a balanced look at paperweights from all over the world and is well worth buying.

This book suprised me as it was so cheap I wasn't expecting much but it is very informative, well written and illustrated. Better than the more expensive books on paperweights that I have read. Great all round cover focusing on European paperweights which was just what I was after. Great Buy!

First published in 1995, so prices are out of date. The main focus is on nineteenth century paperweights, with later twentieth-century designs dismissed over the course of two pages. However, the photos are very clear and show the details that a collector should be looking out for. A larger focus on American makers in this book, but nonetheless a good starting point.

Lovely book, arrived in good time. Great pictures, good information on the classic paperweights, more inormation on modern makers would be usueful but is not contained in this volume.
