Interesting addition to a selection of airfield books. Arranged in a logical manner and with good illustrations, but it is quite a slim volume considering the breadth of the subject. Good binding and print quality.

I thought this book would describe how these airfields functioned during the cold war and what they were used for and what types flew from the fields. Unfortunately If you have already purchased books of a similar vein "Action Stations" etc, then there is nothing new here.

I ordered this book as it was on my husband's wish list. It came extremely well packed and quickly. He opened it at Christmas - well chuffed. The content and illustrations are extremely informative as with all former Midland Counties Books who are know part of the Ian Allan Group.

The book starts with a general view of the history of the Cold war and then the general effect on the airfields buildings, the different airfields are put in chapters grouped together in alphabetical order in RAF Tactical Fighter then Bomber stations, then RAF Strategic Fighter then Bomber stations with a chapter on USAF airfields and finally on Maritime Reconnaisance aifields.
Each airfield entry has a history of the airfield and units that were based throughout its time, some of the airfields also have plans of the airfields included, the pictures illustrating the airfield entries are very good too showing aircraft that were based at the airfields. The information is very good, well written and is an easy read and anybody with an interest in the Cold War or in aircraft and airfields will value this book.
The only negative is a lack of Index as some airfields are in a number of different chapters and you have to go through the chapters to find there other entries.
