A charming, achingly heart-felt collection of the robust, the romantic and the plain whacky. Favourites include "To whom it may concern at the Whalley Range Driving Test Centre" and "Postcard from a Travel Snob", but the whole collection deserves reading and re-reading. Although not quite as uniformly strong as "The Hero and the Girl Next Door", "Hotels Like Houses" travels with me whenever I'm staying away - in hotels, or at home. Highly recommended.
