Whether you are a beginner or not this is a good book as there is a good guide for each of the techniques throughout the book.
For each of the stitch patterns there are charts to follow as well as written instructions. The other knitting book in the series which has charts as well as written instructions in the cable section, is the Harmony Guides Aran and Fair Isle book.
This book is nice just to browse through as the photos of the stitches are really clear. You can choose from knit and purl patterns, slip stitch mosaics, cross stitch patterns and panels, and cable panels.
There are no knitted garments to make as this is a stitch library only, but I would recommend Ann Budd's, Handy book of sweater patterns to go with this. There is no history about the stitch patterns but there are many stitches to choose from. These guides are nicely presented and good value.
A good resource to add to any knitter's library.
