Hard to fault Angus Konstam's superb Pavia 1525. Although not my period (Christmas present) I found it fascinating and informative, so much so that I've started to look for other titles covering this conflict.

I owe all the titles in the Osprey Campaign series and I just finished to read the 150th of them (Khe Sanh). And as longtime fan (not sparing criticism when it is deserved) I state hereby loud and clear - this is one of the best in the series! Very clearly written, with a solid background events picture, a poignant description of the fight itself, great maps and purely delicious SIX (yes, SIX!) colour plates - this is a treasure. To buy, read and keep!

This book really does the authors credit putting the battle into a social and political context and explaining the strategies, tactics and technologies used. No other volume crams as much into this format and this publication must rank as one of the jewels in the crown of the series. Konstam has walked the battlefield and his knowledge of this subject is second to none. As an aside, if you look up the battle on wikipedia you will see that Padua 1525 features heavily in its bibliography.

Angus Konstams excursion in to the period is boring and doesn't come to life. This book was one of the ones that kicked off the Osprey "quantity not quality" marketing concept, thinking the customer would pay for anything...prove them wrong by avoiding this volume...
